7-Day Tanzania Family Safari
Journey Overview
Seven days gives a family enough time in each park to settle into a rhythm rather than arrive and leave. The route adds Lake Manyara to the standard northern circuit: the park is compact, which keeps the game drive focused, and the treetop walk gives younger travelers a different kind of activity from a vehicle-based morning drive. The Serengeti section runs for two days, long enough to have one structured game drive and one that responds to what is actually happening in the field rather than following a fixed plan. Days are built with flexibility in mind: game drives can be shortened or extended, and the lodges along the route have pools and open grounds that allow for genuine downtime between parks rather than moving directly from one to the next. The guide adjusts timing each morning based on conditions and energy levels. This is a well-suited first Africa trip for families with children old enough to manage a full game drive, who want a clear route, consistent wildlife, and accommodation with practical facilities.

Itinerary
Arrival in Arusha
Arusha
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, a private transfer brings you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on arrival time, the remainder of the day is available to rest before the journey begins the following morning.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, the drive south from Arusha takes around two and a half hours on tarmac to Tarangire National Park. The park is named after the Tarangire River, the only reliable water source in the area during the dry season. Elephant families concentrate along the riverbanks in significant numbers at this time. The terrain is a mix of woodland, baobab savannah, and grassland. More breeding bird species have been recorded here than anywhere else on the northern circuit. A game drive runs through the afternoon.
Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park
The drive to Lake Manyara National Park takes under an hour. Despite its modest size (around 330km²), the park offers considerable habitat variety: groundwater forest, acacia woodland, open floodplain, and alkaline lakeshore. A treetop walk is included on this day, running through the forest canopy and offering a different perspective on the landscape. The afternoon returns to Karatu for the overnight stay.
Karatu to Serengeti National Park
Serengeti
The morning drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area highlands offers views of the crater rim before the road descends into the southern Serengeti. The Serengeti covers 14,763km² and the approach through its southern grasslands gives a clear sense of the scale of the plains. A game drive follows on arrival in the central section of the park.
Full Day in Serengeti National Park
Serengeti
A full day in the Serengeti, with the option of either a split game drive (morning and afternoon with a midday break at camp) or a continuous drive with a picnic lunch in the field. The central Serengeti around Seronera holds one of the most consistently dense concentrations of resident wildlife on the circuit, with lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, and large plains game herds present through most of the year.
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, the journey moves south from the Serengeti toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, approximately 20km across and 600m deep. Formed two to three million years ago, it functions today as a self-contained ecosystem supporting high densities of large mammals across grassland, swamp, forest, and soda lake habitats. The game drive on the crater floor runs through the afternoon before the ascent to the rim.
