4-Day Tanzania Safari: Manyara, Serengeti & Ngorongoro
Journey Overview
Four days is the minimum for a meaningful northern Tanzania safari without the trip feeling like it exists only in transit. The route drops Tarangire to keep transfers manageable and focuses on Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro: three stops that cover the widest range of habitats and the most significant wildlife areas in the fewest driving days. The pace is brisk and game viewing time is limited. This works best as a short safari added to a longer international trip, or as an introduction before returning with more time. Anyone who can extend to five or six days should do so: the additional days significantly improve the balance between driving and time in the field. For those with exactly four days, this route makes the most of them.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, the drive to Lake Manyara National Park takes around two hours from Arusha. A game drive follows on arrival, moving through the groundwater forest, along the lakeshore, and into the acacia woodland. The park covers around 330km² and is a reliable first stop on the northern circuit. Lunch is served in the field. The drive back to the lodge follows in the afternoon.
Day 2: Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, the journey continues toward the Serengeti, passing through the southern section of the park on a game drive en route. Lunch is served at a suitable site inside the park. A further game drive runs through the afternoon before reaching camp for the evening.
Day 3: Serengeti to Karatu
An early morning game drive in the Serengeti is followed by the drive south toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Accommodation for the night is in Karatu, close to the crater. The following morning begins early to allow a descent into the crater during the cooler, more productive hours.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
After breakfast, the descent into the Ngorongoro Crater begins. The Conservation Area contains the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, approximately 20km across and 600m deep. The game drive on the floor typically runs for four to five hours before the return journey to Arusha.
