Journey Overview
Zanzibar is not simply a beach destination attached to a safari. The island has its own architecture, history, spice trade legacy, and cultural depth that rewards a proper stay. This seven-day journey treats Zanzibar as a destination in its own right — two nights in Stone Town, then five nights on the beach split between the north and east coasts. Works as a standalone journey or as the coast component of a longer Tanzania trip.

Itinerary
Arrival — Zanzibar · Stone Town
Zanzibar — Stone Town
Arrive Zanzibar International Airport. Transfer to Stone Town hotel. A first evening walk through the old quarter before dinner is the best way to orient.
Stone Town — Full Day
Zanzibar — Stone Town
Morning: guided walking tour — the House of Wonders, the old Arab Fort, the Anglican Cathedral and former slave market, the narrow merchant alleys. Afternoon: spice farm tour. Evening: dhow sunset cruise on the harbour.
Stone Town to North Coast
Drive 45 minutes to the north coast. Nungwi and Kendwa are swimmable year-round — the northern tip is sheltered from the tidal variations that affect the east coast. Check in, beach afternoon.
North Coast — Beach Day
Full day at the north coast. Optional Mnemba Atoll snorkel trip by dhow — green and hawksbill turtles, strong reef fish diversity. 90 minutes each way. Alternatively, a full day at the beach.
North Coast to East Coast
Drive to the east coast — approximately 90 minutes. Longer, quieter beach, stronger tidal range, more remote feel. Paje is the kitesurfing hub. Bwejuu and Jambiani are quieter still.
East Coast — Beach Day
Full day on the east coast. At low tide the flats reveal a distinctive seaweed farm landscape. Swimming at high tide is excellent. Inner reef snorkelling accessible from the beach at certain tide states.
East Coast — Departure
Final morning at the beach. Transfer to Zanzibar International Airport. Direct routes to London, Amsterdam, Zurich, and Istanbul from ZNZ.
