Journey Overview

The Marangu Route is the oldest and most established trail on Kilimanjaro. It is the only route with dormitory-style hut accommodation rather than camping — more comfortable and less demanding on gear. The route approaches from the south-east through rainforest, heath and moorland, and alpine desert before the summit push. The standard Marangu schedule is five nights and six days — the minimum to give the body adequate acclimatisation time. The route is not the most scenic on the mountain, but it is the most logistically straightforward.
